We would like to tell you a little about ourselves, our farm’s history and the origin of the name. We chose the name “Cottage School Acres” to pay tribute to it’s history and the farmers who lived here before us.

“We” are the Dixons. A family of six...Brad and Meghan, two daughters, McKenna and Chessa, and two sons, Taggart and Brody.
Brad and I both grew up in a country setting. My fondest memories are of playing in the old barns on our place, climbing trees and enjoying the outdoors. Brad also loved the outdoors...fishing at the neighbor’s pond. riding bicycles and, later, dirt-bikes.
Married and expecting our first child, Brad and I knew we wanted our children to have the same opportunities. Realizing we could not afford a home in the country, we purchased a small house in town. After several years, several moves and adding several children to our family, we began the search for a home in the country again.
In 2001, we found a 190 acre farm with a small house and several old barns and outbuildings. The owner, Warren Barrows, had passed away and the farm was in probate. We tried to purchase it but the farm sold at auction to local land brokers/farmers. After the auction, the outbuildings and fences were bulldozed and another piece of Missouri’s family farm history was lost.
Two years later, the farm was on the market again. This time things fell in to place and the farm was ours...April 10th, 2003. Now, we had to find a name.
For most of the last century, Lillian Humes Barrows and her son, Warren, had lived here. Down the road was “Cottage School” and Lillian was the teacher of the one room schoolhouse in the early 1900’s. What better way to keep history alive, our farm had a name...Cottage School Acres.
