Why Organic? Safety for our children, sustainability for our planet
Our children… We want what is best for our children.
A parent’s job is to keep their children safe. Food safety became an issue for us when we were expecting our first child in 1992. There was an outbreak of e.coli from eating undercooked hamburgers at a fast-food chain…children died. Numerous articles in parent magazines told of links between leukemia and food preservatives. Rather quickly, Brad and I became very aware that the foods you feed your children may not be good for them. We began searching for safer alternatives and we found our answer….natural, organically-raised foods.
Our planet…We want what is best for our planet.
A farmer’s job is to sustain the soil of our planet. Becoming parents, Brad and I also became more aware of the health of our world. We thought beyond “today” and began wondering what the world be like when our chhildren were grown up. The media attention given to the link between chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and the “hole” in our ozone was the first of many environmental issues. With each passing year, the pollution of our soils, water, and air became more apparent as the health of our planet deteriorated. We wanted to do something to help stop that decline and we found our answer…. raising natural, organic foods.
When Brad and I purchased Cottage School Acres and decided to farm, we made a commitment to be good stewards and take care of the soil, water and wildlife. We are not “activists”, just actively doing our part for the health of our family and our planet.
Our hope...is that you will too.
